Expedition Africa and Klawer Wine cellars

52 teams hustle to complete all disciplines set out in order to reach the checkpoints and of course at the end, the finish line!

The disciplines set out to be completed contains mountain biking, trekking, kayaking & rope work. The absolute most important character for every team member will be, teamwork! Some true words: “there are no I in Team”

The teams have to do every activity together. (they have to be within visual distance & hearing from each other) they can choose whether they want to rest/sleep or just push through till the finish line, which is unlikely when the distance to be completed is 500km! They have to be able to read maps & landmarks and operate in harsh weather conditions especially in this area.

On Friday the 18th of May, Klawer wine cellars, one of the big sponsors for this event, held a braai for all the athletes and media teams at Letsatsi Lodge in Vanrhynsdorp. We also did an informal wine tasting which paired perfectly with the steak braai and beautiful night under the stars! These people are extremely fit & don’t drink on a regular basis, but we could tell they loved the wine. It was a joyful evening before the big start on Sunday the 20th in Doornbaai, where all participants started this adventure 09:00 the morning in a canoe!
